NOW OFFERING Breast Ultrasound!
Montana Breast Thermography is now adding breast ultrasound to its diagnostic suite. Women now have the advantage of following up their thermograph with diagnostic ultrasound without having to report to the hospital. Ultrasounds can now be scheduled as soon as the thermography report is completed. The addition of ultrasound improves the accuracy of breast screening and helps differentiate benign from suspicious masses. Cost of ultrasound is $150 and is reimbursable by insurance. Also available is screening ultrasound independent of thermography for those who prefer to do ultrasound alone. What is Breast Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a diagnostic tool which uses sound waves to visualize parts of the body. The advantages
are that it is relatively low in cost and has no ionizing radiation, posing no threat to the patient.
Ultrasound can help determine if a mass is solid or fluid filled, guiding the diagnosis.
What is Breast Thermography?
Changes in the breast happen over time. Tumors found by mammogram have typically been growing for many years. As an area of tissue moves from healthy to problematic, distinct changes take place. A breast tumor its own small blood vessels to tap into the body’s blood supply to derive nourishment. Malignant cells send out messenger chemicals to the surrounding tissue. This increased metabolic activity makes the tissue warmer than healthy tissue. These factors create an area which can often be visualized by a thermal camera long before they can be detected with mammogram or ultrasound.
